What we do with your data.

SombraMap is fully free. The whole app is available to everyone at no cost.

SombraMap is run best-effort. We build and maintain it as carefully as we can, but you should treat it as a helpful companion.

To plan a walk through the shade, SombraMap needs to know where you are and where you're heading. Your location is sent to our servers, used in that moment to compute your route, and then discarded.

It has to reach the backend — that's the only way we can work out which streets are shaded near you right now — but it passes through our systems only to generate that route. We don't store it, we don't log it for later, and we don't build a history of where you've been.

We use a crash- and error-reporting tool to catch bugs and keep the app working — this captures diagnostic information when something goes wrong, not your movements or routes.

Location data is not retained — it lives only for the moment it takes to compute your route. The limited diagnostic data above is kept only as long as it's useful for running the app and fixing problems.
